Durban, South Africa (PANA) - The
Organisation of African Unity (OAU) has granted 1.2 million US dollars
to six Southern African countries whose people are facing starvation.
Southern African Development Community
states of Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique will
each receive 200,000 US dollars to pay for food relief.
OAU secretary general Amara Essy, who represented the cheques to the country's representatives in Durban at the on-going OAU summit, said the grants were meant to help alleviate the suffering of "African brothers and sisters hit by a devastating drought."
